What We Cover

File Repair
File repair covers structural damage that prevents a file from opening or loading correctly. This includes corruption from interrupted write operations, storage device errors, incomplete file transfers, and memory failures during save. When a file is reported as unreadable, invalid, or produces a parsing error on open, the cause is typically damage to the file's internal structure — headers, object tables, encoding blocks, or core data segments.

Recovantis Fileform analyzes the binary and structural composition of the affected file, identifies the damaged sections, and reconstructs the readable content into a complete, functional file. In cases where some data has been overwritten or is unrecoverable, we consolidate what remains and document what could not be restored. The repaired file retains original content to the fullest extent the damage allows. We confirm file integrity before delivery.

Formats covered: PDF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, XML, JSON, TXT, CSV, and other standard document formats.
Format Correction
Format correction addresses files where content is present but visual or structural presentation has failed. This typically occurs when a file is exported from one application and opened in another, when encoding settings differ between systems, or when a style reference or template link is broken.

Common symptoms include scrambled or garbled character output, misaligned tables and column layouts, missing or substituted fonts, broken page structure, and inconsistent spacing throughout the document. Recovantis Fileform identifies the root cause of the formatting failure — whether it is an encoding mismatch, a corrupted style block, or an export configuration error — and applies a correction at the file level. We do not reformat documents manually. We repair the formatting data within the file so that content displays correctly without any changes to the source material. The corrected file is tested in the relevant application before return.
Structure Repair
Structure repair handles files where the internal logical architecture has been disrupted without complete data loss. Structured formats — particularly PDF, DOCX, and XLSX — rely on internal maps, cross-references, and metadata hierarchies to function correctly. When these are damaged, the file may open but produce incorrect behavior: navigation fails, linked content does not resolve, sections appear out of sequence, or the file is rejected by validation tools and submission systems.

Recovantis Fileform reconstructs the internal structure based on recoverable content and the format specification. We rebuild heading trees, table architectures, reference maps, bookmark hierarchies, and metadata blocks. The repaired file functions correctly within its intended application and, where required, passes standard format validation. Structure repair is particularly relevant for documents submitted to regulated or automated systems that reject files which do not meet strict format compliance.
Compatibility Fixes
Compatibility fixes resolve failures caused by version mismatches, platform differences, or system-specific format requirements. A file produced in an older version of Office or Adobe Acrobat may be rejected by a newer application, fail automated ingestion, or produce display errors on a different operating system. Files with deprecated features, non-standard encoding, or format-level characteristics not supported by the target environment are addressed under this service.

Cross-platform issues are also common: differences in font rendering, date and number formatting, and character encoding between operating systems can cause files to behave inconsistently when moved between environments. Recovantis Fileform identifies the specific compatibility barrier and adjusts the file's format version markers, encoding settings, or internal structure to meet the requirements of the target system. Document content is not altered. The adjusted file is tested against the target application or specification before delivery.
